Prior to establishing Responsible Solutions, Ian gained over 20 years’ experience as a Business Improvement Professional within the construction industry, working in a variety of different construction sectors and roles, including contractors, consultants, and latterly within a client organisation.
Ian's experience includes major building, road and water sectors and, throughout his career, has been both involved in and led a number of significant business process improvement projects.
In recent years, Ian has gained significant experience on the implementation and maintenance of quality and environmental management systems; development and delivery of training programs at both corporate and under-graduate levels; and application of sustainable development principles within business practices.
Over the last four years, a significant amount of Ian's work has focused on raising awareness of environmental issues within contracting organisations, central features of which have been awareness of waste management legislation; development of environmental management systems; provision of practical resource efficiency advice through Resource Efficiency Clubs; and provision of in-house training courses.
Additionally, Ian has managed a number of research projects. These include the development of leading edge assessment tools for measuring environmental sustainability including Ecological Footprinting; CEEQUAL (the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Awards Scheme) where he was part of a team led by the Institution of Civil Engineers; and two research projects for Envirowise focusing on packaging waste in the construction sector.
CEEQUAL is a continuing focus for Ian's work where he fulfills the role of Technical Manager.
Outside Responsible Solutions, Ian is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers Environment and Sustainability Board and a governor of Loughborough College.
Philip completed a BSc Degree in Geography at Loughborough University which included looking at Water Resource Management, Environmental Pollution and Biogeography to name a few. This gave him the ability to collect and research data and produce reports to illustrate the research findings.
Prior to working at Responsible Solutions Philip worked as a Project Environmental Manager for a large national construction company. I prepared, reviewed and maintained the company's Environmental Management System for the project, which included compiling Risk Assessments, Legislation Register, Project Environmental Plan, Site Waste Management Plans and Environmental Method Statements. In addition to this Philip performed noise and dust monitoring, production of environmental monthly reports and liaised with local residents and the Councils Environmental Health Officer.
Within Responsible Solutions Philip's role is predominately split between government funded research and Environmental support work. Some of the projects he is involved with are the East Midlands Construction Resource Efficiency Club; a Construction Packaging Research Project and an Infrastructure Forum project.
Philip is passionate about the environment and enjoys making a difference to people's attitudes and approach to environmental issues.
Charlotte joined Responsible Solutions in 2009 with a background of 10 years in HR. She is enjoying the move from the corporate world to a small business setting where she is responsible for developing and implementing the policies and procedures that keep the company running smoothly.
Charlotte plays a crucial role in our Practice What We Preach initiative as she develops our procedures on purchasing, making sure that we buy “the right things from the right people”, sourcing products and suppliers that meet our ethical standards.
In October 2010, she will be walking 102 miles of the Cost to Coast Walk, raising funds for the Encephalitis Society. If you’d like to support Charlotte, you can donate at her Just Giving site.
