James holds an MSc in Clean Technology from Newcastle University, and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Lancaster University. He joined the Responsible Solutions team in October 2011 as a Research Engineer, working on a collaborative Engineering Doctorate (EngD) research project between Responsible Solutions and Loughborough University. This research is primarily focused on implementation of sustainability certification schemes within construction firms, of which a particular interest and focus has been certification to responsible sourcing schemes, specifically BES 6001. James has worked on a number of different projects, including assisting in the implementation of BES 6001 certification for responsible sourcing for a number of different product manufacturers. He has also been centrally involved in producing online learning material for the Supply Chain Sustainability School and also has past experience of producing two BS 8903 Sustainable Procurement Case Studies.
He has spoken at both academic and industry conferences on the topic of responsible sourcing and his broader research. Academically, James has worked closely with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and has also worked with a number of construction product manufacturers in carrying out a number of BES 6001 case studies, both of which form core parts of his research. James also holds Practioner level membership with the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (PIEMA) and is involved with developing training material for responsible sourcing.
